The backstory

This photograph is part of my on-going project The Pool of Life which focuses on the visual poetry of the female form along with an ongoing process of inner reflection.  Captured using melancholic body language, with uniform diffused lighting and elements of water. The shadows, the reflections in the water and the inner dialogue add to the mystique of the work.

I wanted to convey a range of emotions, a pool of life, the dichotomy of the moments of existence where a woman can shy away from her body, to elements of optimism as shown by the the surrounding wild flowers and the power to be at one naked with nature. The pastel shades, delicate flowers, the vulnerability of the nude, and the absence of personalizing facial expressions mean that many women will be able to identify with the emotions depicted within this photograph.
